Whoa. Hello, font. Oh well. I have especially been interested in finding age-appropriate history books for the 5-10 crowd. History with not too much bloodshed, eh? Hmm. Well, I've had some real luck with Ellie at the Toadstool helping me, and the Usborne imprint which seem to be made just for homeschoolers. Woot!

Any suggestions?

Holiday Schedule

We're taking some downtime for the holidays. Here's our schedule for the next couple weeks:

Mon 12/21 (today): Open, regular hours
Tues 12/22: Open, regular hours 10-2
Weds 12/23: Open, Holiday Hours 5-7
Sat12/26: Open, regular hours

Mon 12/28: CLOSED
Tues 12/29: CLOSED
Weds 12/30: CLOSED

Sat 1/2/10: OPEN

Regular hours re-commence.

We got Sarah Crazypants Palin, Andre Offhisrocker Agassi, new YA books and new seasonally-relevant little kids books.

Introducing Non-Fiction - Now in the Non-Fiction section.

What an idea! Putting the Non-Fiction over in the Non-Fiction section! Yes, folks, not only do we have a re-organized Non-Fiction section, we now have a re-organized Non-Fiction side of the ROOM! The "Biography" section is filled to bursting with exciting, tragic, romantic, astounding stories of real people's lives. I would also like to introduce a new category heading that should be exciting to many of you:

"Real Life Adventures, Especially With Ships."

Yes, I made that up all by myself. This section includes titles such as The Perfect Storm: A True Story of Men Against the Sea by Sebastian Junger, A Half Acre of Hell: A Combat Nurse in WWII by Avis D. Schorer [technically a memoir, I suppose], 1776 by David McCullough, and Left for Dead: A Young Man's Search for Justice for the USS Indianapolis by Pete Nelson. See? Now with Extra ships.

I am also thinking of creating other sections such as Unclassifiable Lefty Intellectual Books About Really Interesting Stuff, containing such authors as Lynne Truss, Michael Pollan, Jared Diamond and Richard Dawkins. Probably Douglas Hofstadter, as well.

Storytime at 11! Homeschooler collective?

By request, we've made storytime a little later so that it's easier for you to get out to the library in time.

Storytime is now at 11am on Tuesdays!

I hope that this means I get to see more of you more often! Right how it's 5 minutes of 11 and nobody's been in here YET today.

Speaking of which:
There are a TON of young hip mamas with toddlers & babies here in Stoddard and a quite large number of homeschoolers. Please let me know if you are interested in using the library for meet-ups, hang-outs, study-groups or anything else. I am a big fan of homeschooling and would love to do what I can to support Stoddard's homeschoolers, as well as everyone else!

I know that there is one homeschooling family with kids very interested in American history, especially the Revolutionary War era. Anybody else?

Also, now that there's a space heater (thoughtful donation by a town resident) for the Children's Room, it's not so chilly in there. Hooray!

Is anybody reading this, by the way? Helloooo? Come in Stoddard...

Book Club Update

Just a quick update to let everyone know that the Book Club books will continue to come in, and that if anyone is interested in organizing the book club meetings, the library is available for meeting. Just let me know!

The Book Club will officially resume in January. Pick up Madame Bovary starting Jan 20, and come for the meeting Feb. 17!
