Score! New books!

I had a leeetle too much fun picking out books this month. Next month I won't have 2 months to make up for, so I'll have to take it easy.

Meanwhile, check out the little LibraryThing widget on the side bar (left... no, your other left) to see some of the books I picked up at the Toadstool last night. Ok, I'll give you some hints:

and

There are lots more for every age group. I also ordered a lot more that should be delivered in the next week or so, including some library FAVORITES.

Thanksgiving presents!

The Friends of the Library will be donating two very special items: a 5-DVD set of videos about the history of our region, and the beautiful (and large and heavy!) book, Monadnock Moments, about the Monadnock region with contributions from town resident & Historical Society of Cheshire Co president, Alan Rumrill. It looks gorgeous and I can't wait to read it!

Thanks, Friends!

Looking for Reviews

Hey, Stoddard, whatcha reading?

We'd love to get some of your opinions up here on the blog. If you've read something from the library and you loved it, hated it or just felt kinda "meh" about it, drop us a comment here or send an email to library@stoddardnh.org telling us what's good, what's bad, what's worth checking out. It can be short & sweet or an in-depth analysis. If you'd rather we didn't include your name in the review, just say so!

There's an excellent site that reviews fantasy, speculative fiction, science fiction, and such stories that might be of interest to many of our library patrons called The Green Man Review. I've put a permanent link on the left there under "related links." They have a lot of different reviewers, with a lot of varying opinions. Here's their review of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight.

New books coming soon!

I'll be ordering books next Monday, after the Friends of the Library tell me which books they're going to choose to buy for us this month. Thanks Friends! I have way more books on the list than I can possibly get this year, so come see what I pick out! And you've still got time to give me some feedback.

Here are some definites for this month:

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies -- Jane Austen, Seth Grahame-Smith
Flood -- Andrew Vachss
Homer and Langley -- E. L. Doctorow
Ice –- Keene Sentinel Staff
Monadnock Moments: Historic Tales from Southern New Hampshire –- Alan Rumrill
The Lacuna -- Barbara Kingsolver

Come visit soon!

Post-Halloween Post

As I drove down the hill, I was relieved to discover the library was still standing after a dark and stormy Halloween! Thanks so much to the Friends of the Library and the Trustees who gave out candy to appease the ghosties and ghoulies who appeared on our doorstep! Pictures will be hopefully coming soon. Except, of course, of the vampires. We all know about those.

Books coming soon!
The Friends of the Library have also generously promised to donate 2 books each month to the library. Do you have any suggestions? Post them here or email them to library@stoddardnh.org by the 12th!

Kelly will also be ordering some new books this month, so get those requests in! One of the new books that will definitely be coming in is Ice by the Keene Sentinel Staff.

We are so hip
